Lakers vs. Spurs – Game 4 (Quick) Recap

Ladies and Gentlemen, THIS is how you take a lead…

Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs

93 – 91

Los Angeles Lakers:

  • Kobe Bryant wasn’t at his best, but he still delivered. 28 points on 29 shots, not a single free throw and only one assist. Hardly his best game statswise, but he at least added 10 rebounds
  • Lamar Odom was big for the Lakers in the 4th. When the Spurs’ D collapsed on Kobe, Odom found a way to score. That is what they need him to do more often
  • Pau Gasol was held to 7 shot attempts by the Spurs’ great defense. He still scored 10 points, crashed the boards for 10 rebounds and dished out a team-high 6 assists

Recap

San Antonio Spurs:

  • Tim Duncan was a beast. He is playing so good in this series that it is hard to believe that the Spurs are down 3-1 now. Game-high 29 points, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals and 3 assists – unbelievable statline, isn’t it?
  • Tony Parker – 23 points and a game-high 9 assists
  • Don’t forget about their double digit scorer of the bench: Brent Barry. Yup, he took over and gave the Spurs a chance to tie/win the game at the buzzer. 23 points including 5 three-pointers. He has the best +/- stat in this game by far: +24. Second place: Lamar Odom at +11. Barry made a big difference, but it wasn’t enough.
  • Manu Ginobili was superb in game 3, but disappeared in game 4 except for one big shot from three point land

The biggest question is: Was Barry fouled? Here is TNT’s take:

It was a foul, but still a good no-call. I don’t want the referee to decide the outcome of game 4 and Brent Barry didn’t want the foul. He isn’t used to this situations (Ginobili would have sold that foul way better) and the Spurs took a gamble with him and lost. It is what it is.

Can the Spurs win game 5 in LA? It will be hard, but don’t underestimate them for a second. If a team can come back from being down 3-1, its the Spurs. But, you know, Lakers in 5 still looks good…
