Pistons lose to Grizzlies

If this would have happened 2-3 years ago, it would have been a major surprise, but now…nah…it is bad, but we’ve seen worse.

  • Memphis came out smoking hot and hit on all cylinders – if it wasn’t for the spark Will Bynum and Amir Johnson gave us of the bench, this would have ended even worse
  • Will Bynum is the story of the game from the Pistons’ point of view – he is doing everything we expect Stuckey to do – attacking the rim, finishing in traffic, driving & kicking it out, hitting open jumpers…he finished the game with 12 points and 6 assists, but the stats don’t tell even half the story – this guy is making things happen!
  • Darko Milicic was back in town and he played like a guy who has something to proof. 12 points, 11 boards and a very nice block on one of Amir Johnson’s dunk attempts (in 20 minutes). How can he look like the perfect 6th man one night and a total non-factor the next?

The 2nd half was a different story. Memphis was up by 17 at halftime, but the Pistons fought back.

  • Antonio McDyess is just amazing – is there something like an Energy Player MVP? He would take it, no contest. 19 points, 12 boards and playing through foul trouble. Great game!
  • Rip dished out 12 assists in this one to complement his 14 points.
  • Rodney Stuckey scored 2 points on 7 shots. I’m not sure if he feels comfortable on the court lately, because he looks like he is afraid to make a mistake. Go out there and do your thing, Stuck!

We lost this one, because we couldn’t stop their big men from scoring in the paint early. Marc Gasol looked like Shaq on a few of his buckets and that is a very bad sign. With Sheed out there, we would have won this game.

  1. Antonio McDyess is up to 9.1ppg and 9.5rpg on 53% shooting for the season now. Dice’s rebounding has been off the charts all year long, fantastic board work.

Is he taking the “best big man on the Pistons” title away from Rasheed Wallace this season? I think it’s definitely a conversation at this stage.

  2. You have a point. With Sheed, you have to take the good and the bad, but McDyess is just incarnate hustle. You could definitely argue about it and that means a lot.

Sheed is one of a kind, talented inside scorer, good outside shooter, great defender…when he puts his mind to it, he can be a match-up nightmare.

Best big man on the Pistons…I’d still go with Sheed, but it’s close.
