Los Angeles Clippers – better believe the hype

Posted in NBA with tags , , , , , , on December 24, 2011 by dunkonu

There are more than enough posts about there praising Blake Griffin for what he is (an excellent athletic basketball player with real skills <- rare!) and for what he isn’t (funny <- yeah, I've seen the videos on YouTube and they are cute – but that's not him. He is a nice guy, but don't try to be funny. You can only fail…just be yourself).

Blake is bringing the s…tuff! He is dunking hard, blocking shots recklessly and even distributing the ball. With DeAndre Jordan as his running mate and CP3 distributing the ball, the Clippers are the team to watch this season. People tend to forget that the Clippers are actually a decent team. They won’t win the championship (yet), but they are better than you think.

...finally, this means something again!

Do you know where Caron Butler is playing right now? No? How about the Los Angeles Clippers? Yeah…yes…I’m not kidding you. Butler is kinda like Lamar Odom – only missing the Kardashian. As the Sport’s Guy would say: he doesn’t take anything off the table, but he can do a whole lot for your – no matter what you need. Points? Check! Assists? Check! Rebounds? Check! Defense? Check! He had his (un-)fair share of injury problems, but he will be back better than ever including the…

The Clippers miss a few key guys coming from the bench to keep the energy up through the whole game. They have a decent point guard back-up in Chauncey Billups, but other than that…

Time will solve this problem: ‘Til then…LOB CITY!!!

NBA Europe Live Tour – Berlin

Posted in NBA with tags , , , , , on October 13, 2008 by dunkonu

Well, tomorrow the Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Hornets will square off in the O2 arena in Berlin, Germany and guess what? I’ll be there. I’m really looking forward to seeing Chris Paul wreak havoc on the court.

Too bad that the Wizards lost half their roster to injuries, but these things happen. I hope the game will be as good as the Heat – Nets games in the last few days. Dwayne Wade was scary good and the Nets still won…one regular and one in overtime.

Last time I’ve seen a NBA game live, was two years ago in Cologne when the Suns and 76ers battled it out. Good times! 4 games in two days (1st day 76ers vs. Moscow, Suns vs. Tel Aviv – 2nd day Moscow vs. Tel Aviv, 76ers vs. Suns)…two best basketball watching days of my life. It was crazy and I hope that the Hornets and Wizards won’t disappoint.

I need to get up at 5am tomorrow to catch my plane to Berlin. I’ll be back in two days with some pics and hopefully some stories to tell. 🙂

Spurs vs. Hornets – Game 7 (Quick) Recap

Insect Spray – New Orleans Hornets

91 – 82

I’ve been rooting for the Hornets all the way, but you could feel that they would lose this one. The arena was so quite. It was pretty obvious that the crowd didn’t believe in their team which equalized their homecourt advantage and made it easy for the San Antonio Spurs to steal the momentum.

It was a great season for the Hornets nonetheless and they made a big leap forward to their goal. You don’t go from lottery to championship in a year, but they are headed in the right direction.

New Orleans Hornets:

  • When the game seemed to be over (Spurs lead was 15 at the start of the 4th quarter), Jannero Pargo stepped his game up and nearly tied it on his own – 18 points including mostly big buckets in the 4th
  • Chris Paul is just a great player – great potential, great future – 18 points, 14 assists (9 already at halftime), 8 rebounds and 5 steals – there is only so much a spuerstar can do
  • The Hornets couldn’t buy a basket in the 3rd quarter – if it wasn’t for this collapse, the Hornets could be in the Conference Finals
  • David West scored a team-high 20 points and added 9 rebounds
  • Stojakovic was ice-cold. 3/11 shots and only 1 three-pointer
  • It wasn’t meant to be this year, but they have a bright future

San Antonio Spurs:

  • This is why they won a few championships in the last years, they just refuse to give up and no matter where or who they play, they believe and will themselves to a great performance
  • Tim Duncan was double-teamed from tip-off, but he still scored 16 points and went for a team-high 14 rebounds
  • Tony Parker did what he does best, he drove to the basket for some tough lay-ups good for 17 points
  • Only the Spur’s Big Three scored in double digits
  • Manu Ginobili was the Spur’s key player and he delivered big time – 26 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds
  • The Conference Finals will be great – do the Spurs have enough left in the tank?

Manu Ginobili – 26 points

San Antonio Spurs vs. New Orleans Hornets

79 – 101

If it wasn’t for the third quarter, this game would have been close, but the Hornets outscored the Spurs 28 – 11 in the 3rd and never looked back. Scroll down for a video compilation of this quarter.

  • Crazy how different a team can play at home and on the road. The Celtics are the best example, but I never knew how important home court advantage really is.
  • They lost this game in the 3rd quarter and never recovered
  • Their Big Three combined for 48 points (that is nearly 2/3 of the Spurs total points)
  • Tim Duncan left his offense at home, but he hit the boards hard: 10 points and 23 REBOUNDS (more than half of his teams total), but the Spurs still got outrebounded by 9 boards
  • Manu Ginobili had a team-high 20 points and hit 3/7 3PTers
  • The Spurs had only 18 free throw attempts while the Hornets went to the line 33 times
  • Ime Udoka was great coming of the bench – 3/4 from downtown – 9 points

  • Your player of the game: David West – a playoff career-high 38 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks
  • David West is scary good when his mid-range jumpshot is on
  • CP3 was his usual dominating self: 22 points and 14 assists
  • Chris Paul and David West scored or assisted on nearly every point for the Hornets in the decisive 3rd quarter
  • Tyson Chandler had a few dunks for the highlight reel
  • Bowen took Stojakovic out of his game. He scored a total 9 points, but he crashed the boards for 11 rebounds
  • Chandler rolled his ankle in the 2nd half and didn’t play again
  • The Hornets shot lights out from deep – 53.3% 3PT / outrebounded the Spurs 50 – 41 / had less turnovers than the Spurs / had more assists / more blocks – they were just the better team

Your All-NBA 1st Team

All NBA 1st Team

Ladies and Gentlemen, your All-NBA 1st Team…

This is the first time ever that I agree with the choice for the 1st team – Kobe Bryant (MVP and most 1st team votes), Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James and Dwight Howard. Nice team…but there is always someone who disagrees with someone on the 1st team? Who is it this year? Would you prefer to see Amare or Duncan on the roster instead of Howard ( I don’t give a F that Duncan wants to be listed as forward…)?
